Virttually scoring/indent-free,with exception of a single,faint superficial scoring to rear board.Top+fore-edges bright and clean without blemish; contents exceptionally bright,tight and clean,solid and sound - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,appears unread,apart from my own collation.UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn,4-109pp [paginated] includes 7 colour strip stories; 1st story Rupert and the Speaking Pool,followed by six other stories; Rupert and the Wind Chimes, Rupert and the Sum Bean,Rupert and the Secret, Rupert and the Golden Apples,Rupert and the Sparklers,and the last story,Rupert and the Gaffer's Guest.Yum.Activities include a Guess which story illustrated page,a Spot-the-Difference puzzle,a Rupert's chocolate patties recipe,a cut-out colouring-in competition page - ALL of which of these fun pages are untouched and NOT attempted,the last page with newspaper advert to Follow Rupert with solutions/answers to puzzles,to foot of same page.Cover: Rupert skating with baby wind Zeph holding onto Rupert's scarf as he skates,other Nutwood characters on and around the iced pond, continuing round to rear board illustration. This edition is now out of print,so is scarce, particularly so,in this condition and grade. Visually the exterior appearance is really exceptional for a book of its nature, i.e. a child's annual,and even internally the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. From 1941,the covers comprised 'wrap-around artwork,and each annual from 1950 had colour artwork endpapers.Origami page was introduced in 1946 and onwards annuals becoainge a regular feature for many years.1960 saw magic painting pictures introduced until 1968.In 1985,the first of a series of facsimiles was introduced,the 1970 annual was the last.For PC reasons for several years there's no facsimile annuals printed. John Harrold took over the illustrating of the Rupert character as Alex CUBIE had retired,and who'd illustrated the previous annuals from 1974 until 1978.Harrold continued to illustrate the annuals until 2007 - his last annual. John Harrold was born in Glasgow,1947,and studied art there at the Glasgow School of Art situated in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh building.His first job as a Rupert illustrator was on 'Fun to Cook with Rupert' (drawn in 1973, published 1974).The editor,Frederick Chaplain was impressed and invited him to work for the Daily Express.His first story,Rupert and the Worried Elves,began on 14 October 1976,and in the same year he produced games pages for the annuals.Up to now (2007),he has been illustrating the little bear's adventures for longer than Mary Tourtel,and those children who were brought up on his first adventures are now mature adults.
